“Are my ears deceiving me?” When I heard part of a racist comment from a colleague, I was absolutely disgusted, especially since this person is part of my management team. Along with disgust came disappointment; I expected someone in a management position to be held to a higher standard. My patients range from a thirty-year-old female with multiple fractures, to a ninety-year-old male with metastatic cancer. However, every employee has the same goal; to promote healing and well-being. Unfortunately, I quickly discovered that not everyone on my nursing team shares these goals.
