Most people refer to adolescence as a person's innocent years, others describe them as periods of terror. When you are young, you see the world with an undeveloped mind. When we are children we are simply learning about the world around us, some things scare us, others attract our interest. At that point we are still learning what it means to be human. While reading the novel The Road I realized that the boy in the story is the sign of innocence and hope for his father. Throughout the book the boy reminds his father not to give in to fear or doubt. The son is thought to be a sign from God, to preserve what it means to be human and remain innocent because this is not the end. The book begins when the father and son are walking along a street. All they see is grey, as if the life around them has been absorbed. The world as they once knew it was gone. Food and water were in short supply, it was cold and they were incredibly dirty. As they headed south, the two found themselves in dire situations. It seems that for most people it is humane to kill and eat others. It was a world that had lost all meaning...
