Bharuch also known as Broach, is located in Gujarat at the mouth of the Narmada River. This city is located between Surat and Vadodra and spreads over an area of 6527 sq km. Bharuch is the administrative headquarters of Bharuch district. The history of this city dates back to the 3rd century, when the port of Bharuch was mentioned as Barugaza. This port was widely used by Arab traders to enter Gujarat via Bharuch to do business. Bharuch is an industrial center in Gujrat, famous for its magnificent temples and its strong connection with Hindu mythology, dating back to Saint Bhrigurishi and Bhagwan Parshram (the incarnation of Lord Vishnu). This city is also renowned for its roasted salted peanuts. Bharuch is also known for the Meghraja Festival, unique to the region and celebrated in the month of Shravan (August-September) for 25 days. During this festival, a 5.5 feet tall idol of Meghraj (Lord Indra) is prepared from the soil of Narmada river and is worshiped for 25 days. Credit can be given to its architectural excellence which is magnificent. A colorful Masjid is located at the front of the church while a few meters away is a large Hindu temple.
