Throughout history, religion has changed many people's views of themselves, society, and nature. Confusanism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity and polytheism all address the problems a person wonders about himself, the purpose of life and how he should live in harmony with nature. Each religion has separate beliefs about what is expected of them as human beings and how they should live their lives. In the end they all try to achieve almost the same goal, but they have to do different things to achieve it. Confusianism was started by a philosopher named Confusious. Confucius lived between 550 and 479 BC “Confucius had suggested this idea when he said “to be good as a son and obedient as a youth is perhaps the ceiling of a man's character”. “What Confucius meant by this was that he wanted all people to respect human life and treat our elders with respect and have reverence for everyone else around us. Confusianim used humanism to try to help his followers live. Some of them were xiao, ren and li. “The story of the character xiao is interesting. At the beginning of the Zhou period it only meant “ancestor worship”. But in the subsequent period Zhou also began to mean "filial piety". Xiao is something of great importance to people who follow Confucianism. It is when they show great gratitude and adoration to their ancestors, living or dead. Gagliardino 2With Xiao Confucius “hoped to reform public morality by teaching people correct personal behavior.” Another way religious people found a way to find purpose in life and religion was ren. Ren means humanity. “It suggests a person in relationship, a key element of Confucian thought.” Ren was the Confucian way of teaching his people to love others. He wanted people to be… middle of paper… these deities give people of religion hope for what they are praying for. It makes them feel that if they pray hard enough for a certain diet they will find what they prayed for. By praying to these deities they perform rituals. A certain ritual corresponds to the diet, these rituals give people the feeling of sanctity that the actions they are doing are helping them become better people. All these things that these religions are different in how they do things, but they all try to achieve the same thing for their followers. They try to give them a sense of belonging, they try to show them what their purpose in life is. Whether it's taking a religious journey or worshiping a certain god, people find what they're looking for when they do. It doesn't matter what you believe, it just matters that you can find the answers you're looking for.
