Being in a line company my entire career, most soldiers who show up to my unit are very disrespectful. Not so much in the answers, but in the body language. Hence the scruffy posture in formation, their dirty uniforms, dirty boots and in need of haircuts. This is not only disrespectful to the unit, but also to oneself. How can Soldiers represent the Army if they don't have the self-respect to look their best every day? Customs and courtesy are another sign of respect. It is an art form that our young soldiers have not instilled in them. They are too busy trying to be nice and friendly to everyone, but in reality they seem lazy. If Soldiers would just take a little, more time and give themselves and others a little respect. When a Soldier stands at attention or rests on parade and gives his or her undivided attention to someone, what do you think of that Soldier? The Soldiers are sharp and square. To build future NCOs respect must be explained why it is important in our profession. The fact that a Soldier has respect for himself leads to having respect for others and, of course, he will exceed this standard. The army paved the way for future soldiers to march. The first step to fixing the holes in our career plan is to fill it with respect. Once respect is instilled in our soldiers, the next step is:
