For Foucault (1991) disciplinary technologies are the techniques involved in producing obedient people. In reality, television disciplinary technologies are strongly demonstrated through programs such as Big Brother, Survivor and The Biggest Loser. Big Brother uses the techniques of surveillance and the public gaze to make contestants feel visible and therefore disciplined. The show could slightly influence the behavior of citizens. As viewers watch and judge the contestants, they form an opinion on the kind of person they would like to be in terms of right and wrong behavior. This impacts citizens watching Big Brother and allows them to form opinions about what types of behavior are deemed acceptable and unacceptable by Big Brother and the viewing public. However, there are many people who see reality TV as "trash" and refuse to watch it. Often these people have already formed opinions about reality show contestants and see contestants as "stupid," "naive," and "attention-seeking" people for participating in reality shows and taking the time to participate in them. These people have only watched reality TV a few times and are therefore only slightly influenced by it. They considered reality TV as “trash” and therefore would never want to behave the same way as contestants on reality shows. This has shaped the behavior of these citizens, but they are not
