My Last Duchess and Porphyria's Lover by Robert Browning In the two poems there is a lot of "dramatic monologue" in which the writer shows his feelings personal in the poem. It is also classified when only one person speaks and asks unanswered questions, as in "The Last Duchess", the Duke is telling the servant about his past wife, but all the servant cares about is whether the Duke will marry the Count's daughter . My Last Duchess is about a duke who wants to marry the earl's daughter. The Count doesn't know the duke much, so he sends his servant to visit the duke and his properties. When the poem begins, the servant is already at the Duke's house. The Duke very kindly welcomes the servant into his home. He begins by showing the servant a photo of his previous wife. The Duke then asked, "Will you sit down and look at her?" as if he were very proud of her. Fra Pandolf was his late wife's painter and in the painting the duke noticed that she was blushing.
