Topic > Northup's Case of Northup and the Fugitive Slave Law

The Christmas holidays in Northup's fiction were described as a time when slaves were not constantly engaged in work. Epps would give them 3 to 6 days off. The slaves look forward to the Christmas holidays. The slaves receive a “Christmas dinner” that everyone eagerly awaits. This aspect of slavery is very surprising. I wouldn't think that slave owners would give their slaves so much free time and freedom. Throughout the year, these slave owners beat and torture their slaves, but when the Christmas season comes, they treat them like one of their own. I believe that this type of treatment should be carried out all year round and not just during the Christmas period
