Local workers are subjected to harsh working conditions consisting of overcrowding, exposure to hazardous materials, meager wages, and unpaid overtime. There were cases of child labor and forced internships for university students. The company uses children disguised as interns to avoid detection (Locke, 2013). In an effort to reduce costs, the company does not criminalize the inhumane treatment of foreign workers. Rather than considering short-term gains, Apple should protect its hard-earned reputation by hiring legally qualified workers and subjecting them to better working conditions. They may have to incur additional costs this way, but this cannot be compared to the sustainability they will achieve by perfecting their business.
