He was usually the one initiating interactions and making suggestions about which toys to play or which games to play. I feel like I witnessed Erikson's theory of autonomy over shame and doubt by watching Jax. He seemed to have managed to gain a sense of self-government over his body and his actions. Although attached to his mother and father, he still stood up for himself and was able to find his balance without them once he calmed down. I think this also has to do with the first part of Erikson's theory, and the first “crisis,” which was trust versus mistrust, that was present when Jax was younger. The way Erikson explained it was that children learn whether or not the world can be trusted to meet basic needs. This included “coherence, continuity, and identity of experience,” which Jax's mother and father evidently succeeded at because he was confident enough to explore the social world. I think Jax is an amazing child and will continue to grow and take on new and glorious experiences and adventures throughout his life
