Topic > Florida's Incompetent Capital Punishment System

Many times, while watching television, we see horrific news stories about a crime committed, which most likely was not in self-defense. The first thing that comes to mind; this person will receive the death penalty. First degree murder triggers our emotions to see justice. Even in a country where everyone is innocent until proven guilty, we are quick to pass judgment and convict the suspect in question. With technology so advanced in the United States where we can even get the news on our phones, many times defendants do not receive a fair trial. On the other hand, the incompetence of lawyers has created great doubts about the delivery of justice. Furthermore, the elimination of capital punishment will help alleviate the financial difficulties facing the State of Florida. Therefore the capital punishment system should be abolished. Capital punishment has existed since 1600. Once convicted, a jury decides whether the person will receive life in prison or the death penalty. The first method of death penalty used was hanging the defendant. Witnesses protested that it was shocking to see a person die of asphyxiation; therefore, many years later, the system approved the implementation of the electric chair. The result after the first execution in the electric chair was a disaster, much more gruesome than with the hanging. Finally, the capital punishment system approved lethal injection. As the years pass, the main complaint is always the same; it is inhumane to electrocute a person. The state of Florida allows the condemned person to choose the method of execution. The choices are the electric chair or lethal injection, which is the main modality chosen by the condemned. In the book America's Experiment with Capital Punishm... half of the sheet... of the defendant's actions; however, if the accused is innocent, but convicted and killed by the death penalty system, how could he receive justice? Many people have become victims of a system that doesn't work. Many of the wrongly accused have spent years in state institutions waiting for a decision to be overturned or simply awaiting execution. The years pass in a maximum security institution; no monetary compensation will be sufficient. One wrongful execution is too many. Supporters insist that the new ruling speeds up the sentencing process and the sentence is carried out. In this process let us not forget those who are wrongly accused. A murder committed as a crime or a murder committed by the government has the same result. Someone will end up dying as has happened in many cases. The capital punishment system simply doesn't work; everyone pays for it.
