A Midsummer Night's Dream is a comedy written by William Shakespeare. There are multiple themes in this play, however the most obvious theme is love. Why is love an obvious theme? It's an obvious theme because the play begins with two characters from Greek mythology: the Duke of Athens, Theseus, and the Amazon queen Hippolyta planning their wedding. However, as Theseus plans his wedding, he must help Egeus convince his daughter Hermia to marry Demetrius. Unfortunately both the Duke and Aegeus were unable to persuade Hermia to marry Demetrius, so the fairies (another group of characters. The fairies in this play consisted of the goddess of chastity and queen of the fairies, Titania and the fairy king Oberon and his help Robin Goodfellow) decide to solve this problem by involving a "Western flower" whose juice "will make... man or woman go mad with the next living creature he sees..." Through every single action of the characters Shakespeare implies that love It makes us crazy, but it moves the world. Love is something that needs to be felt with the heart and once someone feels it, their life can change forever. If you have loved, you will have realized that love is influential. It makes us do crazy things that we would probably never imagine doing in our lives. A Midsummer Night's Dream is a perfect example of how love is influential. As mentioned above, Aegeus and Theses are trying to influence Hermia to marry Demetrius, but Hermia does not love this man, she loves another man, Lysander. After realizing that he will not agree, Egeus goes to Theseus. Theseus informs the young woman that if she does not listen to her father “he [will] either die or recant” (Act 1, scene 1 and line 65). In this line, Theseus is lying... in the center of the card... companion of Hermia and not of Demetrius. Lysander loves Hermia so much that he plans to flee Athens and marry her. This is unconditional love because he is helping her unintentionally, regardless of what she gives in return. Unconditional love is selfless, it is the love you give to another person regardless of what they do in return. A Midsummer Night's Dream is a play based on love. Three types of love were also shown in this play: love between friends, family and lovers. Through this play, man can learn many things such as love is influential and that love is strong enough to change the world both positively and negatively leading the readers to the conclusion that love makes us crazy, but it moves the world .
