Topic > Patients Bed Bathing in a Hospital - 3355

Introduction In this assignment I will explore the legal, professional and ethical issues related to bed bathing a patient/client in a hospital setting. I will reflect on a personal experience, an experience during a seven-week internship in a diabetic ward. I decided to use a reflective cycle which is an adaptation of Gibbs' (1988) model. This reflection provided a systematic approach to my learning and nursing practice. Within this essay I intend to discuss approaches to assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care. Heron (1977) refers to the process of reflection as a “conscious use of the self.” Once you become consciously aware of your actions, it is easier to recognize why you do them in the first place. The first stage of this process is to recognize our actions by reflecting we reveal to ourselves how we act, such actions are spontaneous and without prior attention. To maintain the autonomy of my clients I am unable to reveal any information about the client, as a result I have given my client the name Mrs Jones this is to protect and respect my client's confidentiality as stated by the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. Gibbs Reflection Model (1988) Description During the intake phase of each client an assessment is made of the client's skin care regime, this requires taking into account the client's personal preferences, the level of function the client may need to provide for self-care and the amount of assistance needed to promote optimal hygiene procedures in the form of bed baths, while respecting the encouragement of independence. The reason why we bed bath customers is to promote personal hygiene and give them a sense of well-being, while also keeping the skin intact, i.e. preventing pressure... middle of the paper... this assignment allowed to understand the professional, legal and ethical issues related to the provision of care and the dilemmas surrounding healthcare professionals. In the future I will not always tell clients this and I will seek professional advice and not just take the patient's word for it. Bartter Bibliography.
