Work Experiment Internship For work experience I covered 50 hours of work at 'The Gym Group' based in Ilford over a 3 week period. My shifts were Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am to 4pm for the first 2 weeks, and in the third week from 10am to 3pm. In this report I will provide feedback on the tasks and roles I had to perform in the workplace and also the skills I gained from working at 'The Gym'. On the first day I arrived at the gym 15 minutes early to allow me to settle in and give a good impression of myself because I knew that being on time is a fundamental part of working life. Once that was sorted out, the assistant manager took me around the gym to show me all the equipment they had and how to give a tour of the gym to people who wanted to become members and walked me through the health and safety procedures. I also introduced myself to personal trainers, because I knew I had a lot to learn and gain from being surrounded by experienced people, and I got to know them because I knew it was important for me to know what they specialize in. During the week-long work experience period, I had performed a variety of tasks, from the basics of standing at the front desk to greet and welcome members to more challenging tasks such as taking over a class. As the first task I was told to go to the local town and get some bags of money from the bank. I completed the task as quickly as possible to show the manager that I am a determined person. Self-determination allowed me to be motivated through the activities and tasks I took on allowing me to complete the task with ease, as several studies have found a positive correlation between self-determination and work motivation (Maryle`Ne Gagne, 2005). which I had to complete... halfway through the paper... by asking my colleagues to do a task for me or tell me what to do. Being independent has allowed me to overcome the challenges presented to me and develop my own ways of doing things successfully. However I could have improved some aspects during my work experience, such as being on time every day as on some days I arrived at work at exactly 10am, which gave me very little time to settle in. However, the 50 hours of work experience Completing “The Gym” has helped and benefited me, from which I have gained significant skills such as leadership as well as increasing my confidence and self-esteem. I also learned how to adapt to different work situations and how to react to certain circumstances, for example in case of danger, which precautionary measures I should take first. However, these skills will help me face any challenges I encounter and make me thrive to be even more successful.
