Environmental science is a combined field of physical and biological sciences as an academic discipline for studying the environment and the solution of environmental problems. For our first assignment on this topic, the assignment was to find and read about any local and global environmental issues recently reported in the media. The goal of the assignment is to expose and engage students cognitively and scientifically in areas related to environmental awareness and protection. We need to identify the causes of the problem and suggest possible corrective measures to deal with the problems. Local environmental problemsAt the end of February this year some states in our country were affected by strong haze phenomena. An NST article published on 26 February 2014 reports that Malaysian Meteorological Department (JMM) director-general Datuk Che Gayah Ismail says the haze has no relation to the recent flare-up at Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra, Indonesia or to other external factors, the haze is triggered by domestic sources and the shortage of precipitation has caused gas, dust, ash and particles to float and drift in the atmosphere and not fall to earth. The department's records show that the haze is intense only in large urban areas with industrial activities and large numbers of vehicles such as Kuala Lumpur, Selangor (Subang) and Penang (Seberang Perai). So, according to the news article, the causes of the problem are internal sources such as forest fires, factory smoke, vehicle emissions and outdoor fires. Possible corrective measures that can be taken to prevent the situation from worsening are open fires and reducing the use of private vehicles on the roads. The authorities should enforce the......middle of paper......d lakes. In China they say that if you want to know what colors are currently in fashion, all you have to do is look at the rivers. The possible corrective measures that can be taken are Treatment of textile effluents is known as wastewater treatment process. The treatment of the waste stream is carried out by various methods, which include physical, chemical and biological treatments depending on the pollutant load. Primary treatment aimed to reduce the strength of the wastewater and also facilitate secondary treatment. Operations included screening, sedimentation, equalization, neutralization, mechanical flocculation and chemical coagulation. All life on earth is connected to the ocean and its inhabitants. The more we learn about the problems facing this vital system, the more we want to help ensure its health, and then share that knowledge to educate and inspire others.
