Should the United States of America still be in the war in Afghanistan after 12 long years? Many Americans believe the military should leave Afghanistan, but many think we should stay. The United States cannot simply give up and leave! The military must continue their mission. Or come up with a new plan to slowly withdraw American troops from Afghanistan. Our military has worked too hard and lost too many American soldiers only to give up and forget the mission. The article “The Benefits of the War in Afghanistan” states: “If the United States were to withdraw from the war in Afghanistan, the country could become overwhelmed by turmoil.” So, if the US leaves Afghanistan, it will go back to how it was before the US military arrived! Terrorists would travel to an unstable country and cause violence and destruction, overwhelming the Afghan government. “…if the United States were to withdraw its forces at this early stage, more terrorist organizations would flood Afghanistan” (Benefits Of Afghanistan War). America must focus on promoting peace and stability by building a powerful military strategy in Afghanistan. America still needs to strengthen the Afghan army, so that it can control and defend its country. But the outcome of Afghanistan depends on the actions of the United States. Even though the process of conquering the Afghan people is slow, our troops are helping the villages and cities by building safe schools and roads. It is simply a difficult situation because the Taliban sabotage the great work done by the American troops. The United States has sent nearly $100 billion since 2001 to U.S. projects to improve Afghanistan. Even though we have been there for 12 years we still have to complete the mission. “…… middle of paper…… The States are in this war. But poor civilians and hard-working farmers in Afghanistan are victims of the Taliban. The Taliban forces farmers to give up their crops to feed the Taliban. Furthermore, the Taliban forces civilians and farmers to fight the Americans and NATO forces, and if they don't, the Taliban will kill them and their entire family. The Los Angeles Times stated that "...a complete withdrawal would not be in the interests of either this country or Afghanistan...". America is losing lives in the Middle East right now, but if we let Afghanistan become a terrorist stronghold, the United States could see another September 11, 2001. The United States' homeland could be threatened if we don't control terrorists in action. Afghanistan. That's why I firmly believe that the United States should still continue military operations and aid in Afghanistan.
