John MacArthur once said, “Commercialization has obscured the meaning of Christmas. The commercial has become more important than the Christmas carol. What man has to sell is more important than what God has given him.” This quote is a great example of how consumerism has taken over society's view of Christmas. Christmas is simply a day where big companies make millions and deceive others into thinking that this day is mostly about gifts. As a child I saw Christmas primarily as a day filled with presents, Christmas cookies and Santa Claus. Now, as an adult, I have come to realize the true meaning of Christmas. Christmas isn't about man-made objects: it's about family, love, and the celebration of Jesus. During my youth, I imagined Christmas as simply a decorated tree with presents underneath. I was amazed by the glorious lights wrapped around the evergreen conifer and the red and green wrapped presents. Christmas was a magical day, but it was all about Santa Claus and mundane objects.
