After reading both readings, the question of who I am constantly crossed my mind. These realizations after each essay led me to define who I am as a writer. What are my skills as a writer, what thought process do I go through as a writer. This semester has taught me many new techniques of individuality not only in my papers but also in identity on campus. Even if the essay and autobiography are written by women the message does not change just as gender or class should not classify a person but they do. Just like college and school are constantly a struggle for acceptance not only socially but academically. The things we do group and categorize us as individuals. Writing is one of the few ways to truly show your individuality through the expression of questions and answers about the topic you are writing about. These questions we ask ourselves must be based on everything we have read from the beginning of this semester onwards. And the main question is who am I and how does what I read affect or interest me. Writing an article based solely on your thoughts shows your true individuality. Like a room of your own you have your own personality and individuality to show and having money means you can express yourself however you want just to show off your individuality. This fiction that is talked about is the fantasy in your mind that you want to display to show your identity. Just as in the following essays, this shows that we want to be known for our individuality, but to do so we may have to write fiction. “That collar I talked about, women and fiction, the need to come to a conclusion on a subject that raises all sorts of prejudices and passions, bowed my head to the ground. Left and right bu...... center of paper...... acceptable. When in reality there is nothing wrong with who we are now. You have to accept yourself before you can work to take the time to let others accept you for who you are. We cannot go through life constantly wanting to change ourselves into what is common. To be common is to be hidden and grouped, but to be yourself creates the knowledge and effectiveness of your individuality. A Room of My Own means working my way through college and creating the path I will look back on when I get my degree and begin my journey to finding a job and applying my degree. It's the same as my writing style, I need it to make my life my own and not try to be like everyone else. Just like I put whatever I want in my room because it's my private room and not many venture into it, I have to express and act how I feel like I am because that's truly the way to be an individual..
