Topic > Essay on Robots - 693

Every day, technological advances bring us closer and closer to fully autonomous robots, but even today, robots play a huge role in our lives. Robots obviously exist in software, just look at your smartphone, but robots also exist in hardware, recently robots like "Asimo", "Watson" and "Deep Blue" have been able to perform actions that were thought to be exclusively human such as such as climbing stairs, having meaningful conversations and playing chess. But with so many robots already in existence and the rapid progress we are making in robotics, will robots end up becoming the dominant life form? This question has perplexed philosophers and science fiction authors for decades; however, the truth is that robots have already taken over. Without robots in our lives, we simply could not survive as we are. Furthermore, robots are not tormented by conscience and would never jeopardize their existence as humans often do. Finally, robots today have the ability to reproduce; this innate and conventionally biological trait is what transforms a simple object into an animate life form. Robots play an integral role in our society, running our businesses, maintaining our economy and producing, without them, the routines we have set up would collapse. Robots, however, are not dependent on human existence; they could theoretically remain self-sufficient forever. By 2014, active cell phones will outnumber humans. These devices are a great example of consumer robotics and artificial intelligence; we are always connected to them and without them we could not communicate. Additionally, we rely on our robots to run our industry, manufacturing, business administration and plant automation would not be possible without… half the paper… manufacturing. This is demonstrated in many robotic assembly lines, where robots are able to produce a product, or even another robot, in a fraction of the time it takes a human to do so. This far superior reproduction process not only qualifies robots as an authentic life form, but also places them at a higher level than humans with respect to dominance. Robots play a huge role in the life of the human race, but, while they are the servants of the human race, they are already dominant. Robots are faster, smarter and more powerful than any biological life form, pocket calculators will outsmart even the smartest humans, this is why we rely on them so much and with them have greater survivability and a better breeding system than humans, it is obvious why robots are already superior, and therefore more dominant in number, strength, and size, than humans.
