Black American transgenders experience stinky social, economic, and health disparities compared to others in the LGBT community (Moodie-Mills). According to research, black transgender youth are more likely to be homeless and living on the streets (Moodie-Mills). Reports show that approximately 400,000 gay and transgender youth are homeless and approximately 44% of them are Black transgender (Moodie-Mills). Homelessness for Black trans people is often caused by high rates of rejection, violence, and discrimination within their families, churches, and the Black community (Moodie-Mills). Many black trans people come out at an early age, often when they are teenagers (Moodie-Mills). Coming out at an early age makes things more difficult for black trans people because in most cases they still depend on their families (Moodie-Mills). Rejection increases the level of vulnerability, as is the case for many black trans people (Moodie-Mills). Black transgender people often go unnoticed when grouped under the gay or black umbrella (Moodie-Mills).
