Research Methods and Design DS9010 Aung, James HatunSummary (Yaghjian, Chapter 2) January 27, 2013Yaghjian discusses in this chapter how to write a theological reflection paper (TRP) along with "process rhetoric", problem solving and announcement" (18). The beginning of this chapter reminder is not simply an “academic exercise” but rather a good instruction in writing TRPs well. The author admits that there is no such model of writing theological reflection paper, because different writers write a reflection paper depending on their specialization. Writing a theological reflection paper means having a clear understanding of what it means to be “theologically reflective” and why you should write your reflection in their particular context. Determining what type of document is also essential for writing a reflection paper. After the starting points, Yaghjian explains what theological reflection is and the reasons why theologians are writing it. In this chapter the distinction is made between theological reflection and theological research and greater attention is paid to "theological reflection". To have a complete understanding and capacity for theological reflection, one must first consider the “theological imagination” (20). In writing, observing the rhetoric of voice and genre takes on an essential role, TRP differs from other papers because it reflects "the experience, the issue, the question, the problem". Good theology arises from a powerful process of reflection that has “its roots in theological method.” of correlation” which is discussed in chapter 4. The problems arise from different areas of life, probably, from “human life, or from the Christian faith, or from an apparent conflict between these two” (21). Follow a rhetoric... half of the paper... elements for writing a document of both academic and pastoral reflection. This chapter briefly introduces the theological reflection document as “a rhetorical process and a theological practice. Yaghjian identifies the theological reflection procedure in two models; “reflection paper and “problem-solving” phases. The author also explained two “generic” methods of the TRP, the first as a “pastoral theological reflection document” and an “academic theological reflection document” (35). This chapter also covers proper instructions for constructing a theological reflection paper and takes readers through practical work from writing a personal/devotional reflection paper to a theological/academic reflection paper. Yaghjian concludes this chapter by providing a brief introduction to the next chapter which will be a good instruction on how to write a theological reflection or academic reflection paper..
