Probably all of you will celebrate this time of December with Christmas carols to decorate your Christmas tree. We all love Christmas and its Christmas cheer. But today I want to talk about a place that holds so many great traditions, the country we all know and love...France. You may have heard of France because of its famous city called Paris. French citizens also celebrate Christmas, but they also celebrate traditions and celebrations that are very different from how we usually celebrate here. France lies above Spain, below the United Kingdom and to the right of the Atlantic Ocean. In France, I would say the most celebrated tradition is known as "le reveillon", the celebration with a feast fit for ten kings. Holidays and all that aside, let's talk about the French government. The French type of government is a semi-presidential system. Do you have a religion? Well here are some of the religions practiced in France. Some of the major French religions are Catholicism, Islam and Judaism. Even the French have a different language from ours. French is a cursive language descended from the Latin language spoken of the Roman Empire. We'll delve into all this later. So sit back, relax and hear a little more about the French government's views, language, religion and things like that. France has a very different overall perspective than the United States. So now let's get into details about the French government. As I said, the French government is a semi-presidential system. The semi-presidential system is defined as a powerful president when a unified majority exists. The Prime Minister becomes secondary to the President in all legislative and diplomatic areas. If a president is weakened by having two opposing parties, the president and… the middle of paper… also share similar attributes. They elect a president by popular vote just like we do. But it seems to me that the Prime Minister has more control. We also have more religions than France. The United States as I see it is more diverse, the freedom in our country is unmatched anywhere else. We have Catholicism, Judaism, Baptist, Muslim, Protestant, Methodist, Pentacostal, non-denominational, Buddhism, Scientology, Hinduism, etc. Demonstrating that we accept all religious freedoms throughout our country. We may not all agree, but at least there is freedom. I also learned a lot about other traditions and practices in France. Like French ballet, it is the dance always associated with France when it does not have French origins. I should end by saying that I would love to visit France and see for myself what I have only read about.
