Suppose you stand on a beach at sunset and feel deeply moved and utter the words, "This is beautiful, this is glorious." Ultimately you are satisfied with the feeling that we as a culture refer to this response as beauty. A feeling that possesses enormous power to touch us deeply while possessing enormous potential to grasp and transform us. Because beauty arouses and satisfies our deepest desires, as well as attracting us, arousing our adoration and inviting us to adorn ourselves with its splendor. Our society, in fact, naturally celebrates beauty automatically through experiences that arouse affection for what we find attractive. But what does it do to allow us to achieve such a feeling? The reason for this, I think, is that in every person there is a God-given sense that beauty must have a meaning that is greater and more lasting than the brief satisfaction felt. That this need for ultimate meaning is evidence of God's creation of beauty. Therefore, if God created all things and gave everything its form and purpose, then I define beauty as a relationship with God Because to know God is to know beauty, to know beauty is to know God. Just as God is the source of all truth and goodness, God is also the source of all beauty. God is the Supreme Artist – the Creator of everything. Therefore, all that is beautiful reflects the artistry of God. The Church Father, Hilary of Poitiers, wrote: “Surely the author of all created beauty must himself be the beauty in all beauty.”-2 -Born and raised as a strong Catholic, I feel the presence of God in my daily life and am blessed to be surrounded by this company. His power in my life allows me to indisputably declare him as the one individual who more… middle of paper… years ago opened the way to eternal life for all who believe in him. Only human there is a place where we desire the power and presence of beauty. We need beauty. We need to be overwhelmed and dragged into its inexplicability which arouses our desire and captivates our affections. Because I believe we all want to be moved by some rare glimpse of greatness. We long for a vision of nirvana, something that will sustain our souls and bring peace to our hearts. I am convinced that the reason it is there is because God is ultimately beautiful and made us desire Himself. And we can know that our desires are residues of this need for God because everything that is not God leaves us unsatisfied. For our greedy hearts only one vision will be enough, the glory of God. This is what we were created for, and this is what we desire, whether we know it or not.
