Topic > Persuasive Essay on Organ Transplantation - 1198

It was then that Hashem divided Adam into Adam and Chava. Perhaps this suggests that Adam and Chava were conjoined twins, and according to some rabbis, this may be the case. Furthermore some rabbis push this by saying that Hashem tried to find a partner for Adam. But Hashem failed and resorted to removing part of Adam's body to create Chava, so we too must resort to organ transplantation only when completely necessary. Otherwise we have to avoid organ transplantation and find a way around it. The rabbis appear to have imposed another restriction on organ transplantation; the Torah mentions that when a person is executed, his body cannot hang from a tree overnight. This is because Hashem wants us to return his bodies to him intact. From here we learn that there is a prohibition on removing an organ from a dead person. To support this statement the rabbis cite another source, according to which you may not benefit from a dead person. Finally the Torah says "and you will bury him", confirming the law according to which no benefit can be derived from a dead person, since you will not destroy the body that Hashem gave you, you will have to return it.
