The poems that I found most juxtaposed to my father and me were "A Prayer for My Daughter" and "My Father is a Simple Man." Here, my goal is to compare the way my father and I see each other as that of the poems and compare the relationship we have with theirs. The opinion my father had or had about women in general was that they were all fragile, sentimental, caring creatures who behaved sweetly and cheerfully to those around them. My father soon discovered that I, for one, was not fragile, nor did I intend to put on a show for any of his guests. In “A Prayer for My Daughter” the father prays for the beauty and courtship of his newborn daughter, I feel like my father has a similar prayer of his own, minus the marriage-
