I was always called the "fat friend" throughout middle school and high school. Therefore, I turned to the Internet for security purposes. The ability to express your opinion and be completely anonymous has done wonders for me. Of course I joined every social media site known to man: Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Friendster. I was able to show my personality without the judgment of my appearance. Suddenly, my sanctuary took a complete turn when I started receiving negative comments on my personal photos. The struggle I had extended both online and at home. This caused me to spiral into a minor depression, as well as acquire an eating disorder and outrageous diet regimens. At the height of my depression, I began to realize my worth and decided to change my life for the better. I started by reading inspiring fitness blogs and indulging in workout videos on YouTube. By implementing change in my life, I have been able to improve myself and I couldn't have done it without the Internet.
