Rather than worrying about Nora's well-being, Torvald is more focused on his own reputation. While declaring Nora a criminal, he quotes, “…it must seem that everything between us is just as it was before – but of course only in the eyes of the world” (Ibsen 73). Torvald is clearly already hatching a plan to hide Nora's mistake so they can still appear normal and happy to the audience. Furthermore, soon after Krogstad's second letter arrived revealing that he had not set out to blackmail Nora, Torvald responded with, “I am safe! Nora, I'm safe!” (Ibsen 74).
