Throughout my professional training, I have seen many students simplify this consideration, understanding that teaching literacy and language skills simply means creating tasks and exposing the students to real situations in which they must use their resources to communicate effectively, without explaining the rules of language, identifying and analyzing the specific decisions they are making and the reasons for them. I deeply disagree. “Language learning is a process of developing new resources for meaning-making, and language learners need opportunities to participate in meaningful activities and interactions supported by increased awareness and explicit attention to the language itself in all its complexity and variability" (Schleppegrell, 2013.
