“Parents may, with good reason, regret that a disabled child was ever born.” (Singer 2). As dark as it may seem, sometimes the child's parents may regret allowing the child to live because of the difficulties and discomfort the child faces every single day. “Anomalies at birth vary, of course. Some are trivial and have little effect on the child or his parents; but others transform the normally joyful event of birth into a threat to the happiness of parents and any other children." (Singer 2). “The personal assistant I travel with pushes me in my handicap chair around the airport looking for a place to use the bedpan” (Johnson 7), Mrs. Johnson needs assistance with her daily life. Whether financially or physically, not all parents and families can provide the intensive care these individuals may need for their daily lives. When a child with a disability is born, not only the child is affected, but the entire family. The child will need extra care; the child may not be able to live on their own and will constantly need assistance with everything they need to sustain their life.
