In the book Lord of the Flies there is a main leader, his name is Ralph. He was chosen as leader because of his good looks and he was the one who blew the shell. Ralph is bright and athletic. The theme of this book is basically civilization versus savagery. Ralph was trying to pave the way for civilized survival until, or if, they were rescued. Ultimately though he was naive about it. Some kids were cruel, some were scared, some were just trying to survive. I like Ralph because he put up with all the boys. Piggy was annoying at times and Ralph dealt with it as best he could, even though he was fed up with everything. He said "Because since then I understood" (Golding), his motivations were mainly to get to a civilian course to be saved and survive. He constantly told the boys to keep the fire burning until help arrived, to build shelters and find food, as Ralph had ordered. He gets most of his ideas from Piggy who is always by his side. But he never defends Piggy, because he is afraid of Jack. Jack shouldn't be so mean to Pig...
