There are many influences that the media can have on a person. Advertising affects people above all. There are so many ads that glorify junk food. For example, there are extensive McDonald's advertisements advertising their Happy Meals when in reality the food is fake and unhealthy and causes many people to become overweight and obese. These ads have an extreme effect on health. Furthermore, instead of going out and exercising, children stay at home watching television or spending time on the Internet. Also, when looking at magazines, many people see a picture of what looks like a perfect man or woman. Girls see incredibly gorgeous women who are too skinny. As a result, many girls become anorexic as they try to look more like that image. “One study reports that by age thirteen, 53% of American girls are dissatisfied with their bodies. This percentage rises to 78% when girls reach seventeen” (“Average”). However, these images are not even real. In most cases, the images of these women are edited and retouched. Imagine that a person is watching a TV show or movie in which the characters appear to be having fun. A younger child, a teenager or maybe even an adult sees these characters celebrating and having a lot of fun. All these characters drink and smoke. Some people might think that these characters seem to have a lot of fun and want to be like them. As a result, these people may also engage in such behaviors since that is what they have been exposed to. To give another example, let's say someone has idolized a celebrity since they were very young. However, now news is coming out with pictures showing that star smoking. This could affect the fan of that celebrity... in the center of the paper... be careful. Works Cited"Chapter 1: Living in the World of Media." Living in a media world. Np, nd Web.
