Topic > genocides after World War II - 631

The Holocaust was an alarming event in history that should not have been repeated, but as shocking as it was, it was repeated. During the Holocaust, Jews were targeted by a group called Nazis. Jews were tortured, gassed, beaten and massacred in many inhumane ways. Approximately 11 million Jews were brutally murdered simply for being who they are. The Holocaust is considered a genocide or mass extermination of a group, race or religion. After the horrible Holocaust/World War II episode, many people said it would never happen again, but that was easier said than done. Unfortunately there have been many genocides after the Holocaust, too many. Syria, Cambodia and Rwanda are just a few devastating disasters that should not have happened. The Rwandan genocide, which began in April 1994 and ended the same year just 100 days later, was the attempted extermination of the Tutsi ethnic group. The violence was perpetrated by approximately 200,000 people, many of them belonging to the Hutu ethnic group (“Genocide in Rwanda”). Tutsi and Hutu are two of the three main ethnic groups that make up the Rwandan population ("Genocide in Rwanda"). The Hutus took action first by killing all the important officials who were in power to stop their plan ("Genocide in Rwanda"). One of the first to leave was then-President Habyarimana, a Hutu, whose flight was shot down on April 6, 1994 ("Genocide in Rwanda"). The killing of the Rwandan leader started a chain reaction of violent acts ("Genocide in Rwanda"). Within a few weeks of the plane being shot down, 800,000 Tutsis were raped, beaten and ruthlessly murdered ("Genocide in Rwanda"). A Tutsi rebel group, the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), 100 days after the start of the genocide, ended the genocide ("Genoc... in the center of the card...). Never again a vast It is a statement too difficult to achieve. People thought it would be easy to prevent genocides after the Holocaust disasters, but look where we are now there are wars going on constantly and innocent people are being killed, for example, it is creating problems for the country and for us we simply watch. If we really want to prevent genocides around the world we must act. Works citedCarey, Chip “The civil war in Syria has become a genocide”. World Policy Institute, 16 September 2013.
