Topic > The Pros and Cons of Human Abuse The Environment

Recycling is the transformation of used waste materials into new, useful products. Recycling not only offers several benefits for human health, but also for the environment. The EPA says municipal solid waste recovery rates have increased since 1960 by about 5.6% to nearly 25% higher with an 8.5% increase in 2007 from composting. This percentage change has led to a decrease in the content found in our landfills, benefiting animals, humans, and even the environment as a whole. If people don't continue to recycle, our natural resources will continue to decline, which is something we don't want to happen. If more people don't recycle, climate change will continue to increase, which will also lead to changes in water temperatures. Higher changes in water temperature lead to less dissolved oxygen in ponds, lakes, oceans and streams, which will lead to the death of aquatic wildlife. By recycling, the chance of changes occurring will be greatly reduced (Rogers,
