Topic > Electronic waste management and treatment (recycling)

RecyclingRecycling is one of the waste treatment methods whereby, due to the value of the material or environmental perspective, the old material (waste) is transformed into new products and usable. Few materials that can be recycled are: glass, paper, metal, plastic, fabrics and electronics. Few of these will be discussed as e-waste contains glass, metal and plastic. Glass Recycling: The process of creating new, usable products from glass waste. “Each ton (1,000 kg) of waste glass recycled into new items saves 315 kilograms (694 pounds) of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere when creating new glass.(6) The steps of glass recycling are( 7 ):1- Collection of glass.2- Selection of glass: It may also be necessary to sort glasses by color as glass retains its color after recycling.3- Processing: production of glass cullet4- Processing: removal of contaminants5- Processing: production of recycled glass6- Processing: bleaching and dyeing7- Processing: production of recycled glass productsPlastic recycling: the term plastic recycling refers to the processing of plastic waste and the transformation of plastic waste or scraps into a usable condition that can be used in manufacturing products Tons of plastic waste ends up in landfill when large quantities can be recycled. There are two main plastic resins in electronics, "thermosets" which cannot be remelted and create a new product, so they are shredded and recycled; the other plastic resin used in electronic equipment is "thermoplastic", which can be remelted into new products. There are five general stages in the plastic recycling process (5): 1- Plastic selection. 2- Wash plastic waste. 3- Shredding of plastic. 4- Identify and Cl...... half of the document ......V6CVJBznN597pGmy-qyw&sig2=xirrsdoXxgnoKwZv5ZO9oQ&bvm=bv.62922401,d.aWM3- ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION, ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT, SOLID AND HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM, COMPLIANCE AND ENFORCEMENT , DIVISION OF COUNTY ENVIRONMENTAL AND WASTE ENFORCEMENT, E-Waste Management Rules Proposed Amendments: NJAC 7:26-2.8(s), NJAC 7:26A-1.1 and 1.3 Proposed New Rules: NJAC 7:26A-13 Authorized by : Bob Martin, CommissionerDepartment of Environmental Protection4- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_waste5- http://www.prlog.org/11708649-5-stages-of-the-plastic-recycling-process.html6 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass_recycling7- http://www.all-recycling-facts.com/glass-recycle.html8- http://www.conserve-energy-future.com/RecyclingMetal .php9-http://www.iowadnr.gov/Environment/LandStewardship/WasteManagement/Recycling/Ewaste/HazardsofEwaste.aspx
