The original purpose of the technology was to complete tasks more efficiently and quickly than humans. Of course, technology has taken the place of human labor in almost all fields of work. This is beneficial to society and business because it increases the speed and efficiency of communication, developments and many other aspects of life. However, technology also has negative effects. Unfortunately for the current generation, “machine-assisted thinking will continue to erode job opportunities at ever-higher skill levels and thus force people to accept longer periods of education or poor job opportunities” (Kile). Students graduating now not only have to compete with their peers, but they also have to compete with advancing technology. As computers become more advanced, people must gain more knowledge and demonstrate a higher degree of intelligence than the technology. People with different levels of education are already losing their jobs because they are unable to demonstrate their intelligence. As unemployment rates rise, it is possible that “large masses of inactive people will further threaten social stability because they could easily succumb to demagoguery” (Kile).
