Before the model trips to the United Nations, I had no confidence in myself. Students at my school saw me as illiterate because I was very shy and always afraid to speak or participate in class activities. I thought like them and started saying I would never make it. Today I feel comfortable speaking at conferences because I have confidence in myself. After the conference, I knew I wanted to make a big difference not only for my country but for the world. I started focusing on high school classes like History, Sociology, and English to prepare for a better future. After attending the Model United Nations Conferences, I attended other local conferences in my country and applied the few skills I gained from the Model United Nations trip. Even though I have many years ahead of me before I can realize my dreams, I still believe that Model UN was the first step in my career to become a human rights activist and diplomat. If it were not for the Model UN I would not have been as involved in trying to find a solution to the world problem as I am now. I am currently working on my position paper and draft resolution for the upcoming 2015 NORTHWEST MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE in Seattle this November. I look forward to the great opportunity to represent my school, Bellevue College, and hope to get something new out of it
