He also suggested that it simply exists. a lack of interest in school because students do not recognize how information presented in class relates to them if it is not related to their future goals. The mentality is, “Why should I learn biology if I don't want to be a biologist?” However, ethnic studies classes relate directly to students within and outside of the ethnicity the course focuses on, because they offer students the opportunity to understand the impact and contribution of a particular culture on the rest of the world. The benefits of the ethnicity-focused curriculum have impacted me personally. I had a significant increase in areas such as politics, racial and ethnic tensions/issues, and argumentation techniques: along with the rein:orc einent of English writing techniques. Over the course of the semester I expect to have an even more sophisticated understanding of the concepts I have been introduced to so far, which otherwise would not be available without external research. So far, I agree with Gabriel (Precious Knowledge) that teachers really teach differently than teachers of other classes and that the topics discussed in class are so interesting that it is seemingly impossible to stop thinking about them. Additionally, students who take ethnic studies courses perform better on standardized tests, according to the Tucson Unified School District. This leads to more opportunities for post-secondary education and, overall, contributes to a more educated and more successful education
