Selfish enough to think and care about my life (something I'm still working on). As the saying goes “there is a reason behind everything!” I say this because as a Mexican-American I have been judged since I was in elementary school. Long story short: I lived in Mexico for three years, came back and had trouble speaking English, but I managed. The teachers couldn't believe I was born in the US (even when I told them I was), they went out of their way to check my records to see if what I was saying was true or not. I didn't feel sad, but it frustrated me; and just as Maya Angelou once said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel" - I couldn't agree less with she. Unfortunately, as I got older, I was still questioned or simply judged based on the color of my skin, and I continue to do so.
