Micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals are essential for life, health and development. Although their deficiencies have been widely linked to various pathological presentations, their elevated serum levels have also been recognized in many disease states. Many agents, even those with therapeutic utility, are known to alter serum micronutrient levels. This raises the stakes with the administration of fake drugs. The aim of the study is therefore to identify whether the administration of mock neurobion is able to cause alterations in serum micronutrients in female Wistar rats with an average age of thirteen weeks. Eighteen rats were divided into 3 groups of 6 rats each. The first, second and third groups of rats were administered 30 mg/kg body weight of fake Neurobion, authentic Neurobion® and distilled water, respectively. The route of administration was by gastric gavage. Determination of serum levels of minerals and vitamins was carried out using the atomic absorption spectrometric method and the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) technique, respectively.
