Biblical References in the “Song of Songs” Beneath the recorded names were other names, just like “Macon Dead,” forever recorded in some dusty file, hidden from view of the true names of people, places and things. Names that had meaning. No wonder Pilate put his in her ear. When you know your name, you should hold onto it, because unless it is written down and remembered, it will die when you do. - Song of SongsHagar- Sarah's Egyptian maid. God had promised Sarah and Abraham many children, but they remained childless. If the wife had no children, it was customary to allow the maid/slave to replace the wife. Hagar bore Abram a son, Ishmael. When Sarah gave birth to her son, she became jealous of Hagar and forced Hagar and Ishmael into the wilderness. Hagar and Ishmael were wandering in the wilderness and would have died of thirst, but God directed them to a well. Genesis 16,21,25 Magdalene known as Lena/Mary Magdalene - Jesus healed her of seven demons; these included physical, emotional, and moral problems. She was part of the group of women who gave money and supplies to Jesus and the group of disciples, and accompanied them on some of their preaching and healing tours. He witnessed the Crucifixion. Mary Magdalene was one of the first to meet Jesus after his resurrection from the dead. She was the first to know about the Resurrection. Matthew 27.28 Mark 15.16 Luke 8.24 John 19.20 Pilate/Pontius Pilate- He was the Roman governor of Judea. The New Testament generally portrays him as weak and incapable of making decisions. Jewish sources describe him as a strong authority figure. Both sources, however, claim that he was unfairly hostile towards Jews. The Jewish leaders brought Jesus before Pilate. They said that Jesus claimed to be the Messiah (king of the Jews) and accused him of treason. Pilate discovered that Jesus was from Galilee and sent him to Herod Antipas, ruler of Galilee. Herod mocked Jesus and sent him back to Pilate. It was customary for the Roman governor to free a Jewish prisoner at Easter time. Pilate took Jesus and another condemned Jew, Barabbas, to the palace steps and told the crowd to choose who should be released. The crowd chose Barabbas and Pilate condemned Jesus to die on the cross. Before ordering the crucifixion, Pilate washed his hands in public to absolve himself of the murder of Jesus.
