I have been visiting the Smithsonian museums in Washington DC for as long as I can remember. I grew up very close to that area and have always loved seeing in person the things I learned in life social studies classes: the Constitution, the Star Spangled Banner, the Declaration of Independence, the Lincoln Memorial, and so much more. The whole city reminds me of how many people fought for the freedom we have today. During this course I realized that things have not always been the way they have always been. The fantasies of a perfect nation that I had created in my mind as a child have changed. Think, how important is tradition to you? For my family, tradition is very important and appreciated. Every year at Christmas we do the same thing, we gather at my grandparents' place, prepare homemade pizza and Italian desserts and exchange gifts. Last year I decided to go on a mission trip to Bolivia over the Christmas holidays and not return home. My family understood, but it was still sad that a small piece of our tradition was lost. When something that's been happening for so long changes, it can be annoying. This is what I think about the change of Freedom in the United States. On June 7, 1776, an attempt was made in Philadelphia to stop the resolution to sever all political ties with Great Britain. “Resolved: That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, wholly dissolved” (Richard Henry Lee. 1776, Lee Resolution. 1). We broke away from Britain but found a new enemy, ourselves. Since our founding fathers gave us the opportunity to live free on nat...... middle of paper ...... but never specified; therefore, now people take advantage of the right, and this is wrong. In conclusion, America is constantly changing, everything changes, some get better and some get worse. The only way we can smoothly adapt to changes is to be a community with a common goal. I think the changes I mentioned all happened at some point in hopes of making things better. Freedom of religion is being tested and we must keep it under control. The rights afforded to all are also at issue and we must remember that everyone has the right to be treated equally. Finally, we all still have freedom of speech, but we cannot take advantage of it for our own selfishness. It is important to know where the country has evolved from so you can appreciate the positive progress being made or prevent the negative ones from occurring..
