The discoveries and innovation during the scientific revolution played a very important role which proved to be very beneficial for the early stages of the Enlightenment. During the 17th and 18th centuries, the European educated classes followed a rigid religious foundation of values. Europeans would soon change their worldview towards a primarily secular, science-based contrast. The development of scientific knowledge was the main cause of this intellectual change. Most would say that the push that sparked the scientific revolution began with the Greek philosopher and scientist Aristotle. He created the geocentric theory; “which stated that the Earth was the center of the universe and that the rest of the universe revolved around the Earth (which was immobile)” (Fresno Unified). “Aristotle also stated that the planets around the earth were moved by “gods”” (Wikipedia). The church agreed with this theory and did not reject it. This idea remained unquestioned until the 17th century. The Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus was at the forefront of scientific discoveries. He questioned Aristotle's theory, stating himself that he believed that the planets instead revolved around the sun. His ideas would mark the beginning of the scientific revolution. It has instilled doubt in Christianity and the church, and people begin to question the universe around them. Although Copernicus' theory was not entirely correct, it formed a solid foundation for future scientists, such as Galileo who expanded Copernicus' hypothesis and built the telescope. Citizens across Europe soon began hearing about Copernicus' newly discovered scientific approach. This has led to an explosion of ideas and new discoveries among people with higher education and among scientists.Tyc...... middle of paper ......t because they were born low class.
