The Single LifeA typical single person in the media is usually portrayed falsely in my opinion. They are shown living their daily lives with virtually no worries. If they were burdened with something, that is not significant and is usually laughably unimportant. One example is that they only seemed to care about finding dates. If this is the worst thing I have to worry about when I get older, then I'm not too afraid of getting older or being single. In many TV shows the main focus of an episode has to do with a boy looking for a girl or a girl looking for a boyfriend. This doesn't happen in real life. I mean, sure people are looking for dates to hook up with, but that doesn't occupy their entire mindset. It seems that on TV singles have no responsibilities. They always focus on insignificant materialistic things. Clothing, jewelry and money are the main topic of discussion or concern. Single people seem quite independent on the shows. They seem free to run freely, without the burden of commitment. On “Friends” they seem to have plenty of time to sit and talk about things all day. And of course there's "Seinfield," the definitive show about nothing. None of them are married, but they are portrayed as living perfectly happy with the smallest of problems. They are usually described as sexually active and make it seem okay to sleep around. Almost every TV show has someone sleeping with another person. Being a tramp has become a joke. TV has gone from Leave it to Beaver, where parents slept in separate beds, to today where unmarried couples and strangers sleep together. I think this is a bad example for singles in our society. It sets the tone that people will be fine if they are single. Of course the world won't end if some people are single, but we want to work towards getting people married.
