Topic > Analysis of Sigmund Freud's psychosexual phases...

During this phase we focus on the development in which we begin to show interest in the sexual parts of our body, gender identity, first interest in sex opposite. Freud states that children at this stage often struggle with desires towards their parents of the opposite sex. During this stage, children develop a curiosity about their genitals and also learn that there is a size difference between each individual. Freud developed the term Oedipus and Electra complex, which described the difference in the phallic phase between male and female. Oedipus, which refers to the story of how a man unknowingly killed his father and eventually married his mother which he also was unaware of. Freud states that during the phallic phase boys fall in love with their mothers, they see them as love objects. Although Freud points out that boys saw mothers as love objects, he had a different opinion of girls and fathers. She referred to the Electra complex as a girl seeking her father's attention and openly seeking her father's approval. I would say that Freud might be the cause of the terms mama's boy and daddy's girl. The oral, anal, and phallic stages play an important role in development, especially in the development of confidence, gender identity, and positive and negative emotions. Freud emphasizes that during this phase it is important for parents to respond positively to children during this period in which sexuality will be present
