Too often in today's society we hear about a child somewhere in the United States of America who is being abused at home. Sometimes there may be circumstances where this mistreatment of a child may be unintentional. However, when this child maltreatment is due to intentional harm or avoidable danger, it is classified as child maltreatment. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention makes the following statements:1. In 2013, 678,932 victims of child abuse and neglect were reported to Child Protective Services (CPS).2. The youngest children are the most vulnerable, with approximately 27% of reported victims under the age of three.3. CPS reports may underestimate the actual occurrence of abuse and neglect.
