Both authors, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Emily Dickinson, represent similar opinions through different types of writing. Emerson himself is more extrinsic while Dickinson represents herself as intrinsically motivated. Furthermore, both authors draw inspiration from different sources; Emerson finds himself inspired by the outside world, while Dickinson's inspiration comes from an unknown force within her body. Emerson represents and displays masculinity in his writings using fierce language, while Dickinson instead represents a feminine side. Even though both authors convince us in a way that they are very different from each other as we look at their theories and writings, in the end we find their faith very similar. I will discuss the ambiguities found in their writings regarding faith and their rejection of religious authority. First, Emerson is known as one of the greatest figures of spirituality in the world. He decides to leave the Church thinking that the profession was antiquated; and that form of commemorating Christ did not suit him. He moves away from the Church and religious authority towards an individualistic state of expression. He believes in the idea that all life is connected to God and defines all life as divine. The following quote expresses his belief: “Anyone, anywhere and at any time, can have direct and immediate access to the central truths and experience of life itself.” (Emerson). With this message he truly states that all human beings have the ability to be connected with God anywhere and at any time. Furthermore, he believes in the divine soul and that we can all connect with Him in a relaxed state. Emerson's inspiration comes completely from... middle of paper... dualism that will liberate them and allow them to express their individuality and ambiguity in faith. Although inspired by different sources, they believed in the unity of all creatures and the righteousness of humanity. They try to describe the nature of God in many different vivid figures such as: tragedy and pain which will make us realize the true power of God. We often find ourselves far away from God because he might take away something/someone important from our life, but when it all comes back Normally we always find new satisfactions and pleasures. Although their ideas came from different sources and their writings were different from each other, they were quite similar in expressing love for God through nature without the need for religious authority. “Everything I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for everything I have not seen.” (Emerson 3)
