Topic > Arjuna in the Bhagavad-Gita - 934

Over time in literature, films and reality, human beings have come across heroes. A hero, however, is not so easy to define. Is he someone who saves others in desperate need? Or maybe it's someone who defeats the bad guy and gets the girl. It could be a parent, an amazing friend, or another relative who is a good role model for someone. A credible definition of a hero can be seen if one looks at Western culture. Heroes are depicted as larger than life figures who defy the odds and always make it to the top, with happy endings more often than not. Their personalities can be bold, arrogant, and almost always carry an undeniable sense of justice. While it may be out of context based on differences in religion and culture, these basic attributes can still apply. A hero is someone who steps up and does what needs to be done for the overall good of those involved. In the Bhagavad-Gita we see Arjuna fighting with actions that pertain to the morality of warfare and the performance of duties, and the reasoning behind Krishna's words causes Arjuna to act outside the realm of heroic action. Based on the basic principles of a hero as seen in some Western cultures, Arjuna is not a hero because he fails to behave that way and gets the understanding of his duty from an external source. scriptures, the main ideas of the Gita resemble the teachings of Hinduism. Hinduism is a set of rules/teachings relating to daily life and Dunigan morality. As far as morality is concerned, every action has its consequence, if bad, and a reward, if good. This ideal is linked to karma, where your actions gradually determine your state when you reincarnate, creating a cycle until, over the course of an i...... middle of paper ...... fight the battle, despite the imminent bloodshed. , ending any debate about his claim to heroism. A hero is difficult to define in any form, and the definition can be the cause of much debate. The definition can be different when applied to different places and even different cultures of people. As the environment and lifestyle are different, religions and values also change. For this reason the hero will be asked to provide different things to adapt to the surrounding environment. If applied to a modern definition, or even to the definition set forth in the Gita, Prince Arjuna should not be considered a hero. In times of crisis he is unable to act and do what is necessary, and in times of crisis he shows cowardice; a time when you need to act quickly. Works Cited Miller, Barbara Stoler.
