Trip Essay On Saturday, October 17, I took a trip to the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts to see the ballet Giselle. The art form of ballet has been around for a long time and consists of very rigid positions of the arms, feet, legs and head. Full productions usually tell a story through movement and gesture. Ballet is defined as “a form of artistic dance performed to music using precise, highly formalized steps and gestures. Classical ballet, which originated in Renaissance Italy and established itself in its current form during the 19th century, is characterized by light, graceful, fluid movements and the use of pointe shoes," according to Webster's Dictionary. Ballerinas wear special shoes called pointe shoes that allow the dancer to stretch fully from the feet to the toes. These shoes provide the proper support needed to perform the movements performed all the way down to the toes. Every dancer needs a make , one very specific size and shape of the pointe. Pointe work is something that takes a long time to accomplish, it takes many years of training before a dancer can develop the strength for pointe shoes sounds easy, it is.When a ballet piece is created, the artist and/or choreographer connects with a musical artist who writes musical scores specific to the ballet being choreographed. The ballet I went to see was a reconstruction of Giselle as it was composed hundreds of years ago and there are many different versions of it. I think the goal of the artist who reconstructed it was to portray the original plot and variations along with the original music created specifically for this ballet. I felt that the artist did a great job considering the fact that I chose to watch this ballet without knowing the plot beforehand. I was able to follow along easily and was able to tell what the story is
