People who commit sins, despite their circumstances, will never be forgiven. In the drama The Crucible, the main antagonist Abigail acts under the influence of external forces. For example, after witnessing and taking part in the dance in the forest, Abigail is convicted of witchcraft and put on trial by Hale. Furthermore, Abigail, lying, became a court witness accusing several of witchcraft to save her life. Furthermore, she eventually fled persecution and abandoned her love, John Proctor, to live another day. Many believe that Abigail is not a victim of society and therefore her actions cannot be forgiven. Abigail is not a vain martyr to her cause and cannot be forgiven for her harmful actions. For example, Abigail, knowing that John Proctor was married to Elizabeth, put her morals aside and decided to have an affair with him and reclaim her "rightful" place. Additionally, Abigail participated in the "ritual" in the forest and got into character by dancing and drinking chicken blood from the cauldron and was eventually spotted by Parris. Abigail, worried about not receiving punishment, convinced all the girls to band together and claim that they did not practice witchcraft and that the dance was just a game. Amidst the presence of the court, Abigail was now convinced that she must avoid punishment regardless of the cost and falsely claimed that she, along with the rest of the group, had committed witchcraft. Additionally, Abigail evoked the entire scandal known as the Salem Witch Trials due to her inability to openly admit her wrongdoings. She was motivated to do this to take Elizabeth Proctor's side alongside John Proctor accusing her of witchcraft and start over with him as well as re...... half of the document ...... deal that her accusations had on society for having indirectly caused the death sentence of John Proctor. At this point Abigail no longer sought to improve her society and only desired her salvation by abandoning her love, John Proctor, to death. In conclusion, Abigail is a being whose actions cannot be forgiven. For example, Abigail had the opportunity to confess that she had done nothing wrong, yet she did the opposite and saved herself from any punishment. Furthermore, Abigail is held responsible for the deaths of numerous innocents whose deaths were in vain. Furthermore, Abigail could have made up for her mistakes by revealing the truth before fleeing Salem. Ultimately, due to her ill will, she will not be forgiven by society, regardless of whether she was misled by external forces and inherently had the ability to choose her own path..
