In The Yellow Wallpaper, written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman in 1892, was mainly about this woman who suffered from nervous condition and depression. Jane felt uncomfortable in the house. Her husband was a doctor and kept telling her that there was nothing wrong with her, but she felt something was wrong with her mind. She told her husband that the wallpaper in the house was bad and she wanted to change it. He went on to say that she was overreacting. In time he would write in a journal of this yellow wallpaper every day. For some reason he hated it. I believe her husband acted in a way that didn't pay attention to her, so she would continue to hide her diary and write to ease the pain she was going through. In contrast, the story of No Name Woman by Maxine Hong Kingston, was written in 1975. Kingston's aunt was alienated from her family, who committed suicide because she could no longer escape the crude humor between the villagers and her family. She became pregnant and thought of escaping the hell she unfortunately suffered through suicide. In comparison, these women have endured withdrawal from their families and have sought ways to manage their troubled lives in the worst possible way. Mrs. Gilman describes her concern about the troubled loveless relationship that occurred in the story. It also reveals the time when women were supposed to be jovial, but instead this only drove them crazy. In No Name Woman, the story summarizes some old ethics and moralities that happened when women had to respect the legacy they were a part of. From. According to Papke, women were known to be emotional servants. “They were devoted to the well-being of home and family, preferring social stability” (Papke). Men had the power to maintain control… half of the paper… over several postpartum disorders. An important aspect to take away from these two stories would be the theme. Both stories are similar and grant the power of men over women. In the Yellow Wallpaper, she is somehow forced to repress her disorder in a way that is not entirely normal. I believe the marriage she and her husband once ended a long time ago. After trying to ease her pain through writing, she was unable to do so due to her condition. I think it was right to make sure she was treated the right way with proper care and create other possible solutions to alleviate unnecessary problems that could have caused serious damage to her health. In No Name Woman, Kingston's aunt was treated with the utmost disrespect by her community and family. It's unfortunate how being a woman can give you a bad reputation or create prejudicial thoughts and judgments among others.
